Cedar Crest holds off Governor Mifflin to claim their first shut-out of the season

In their second game of the season, Cedar Crest shut out Governor Mifflin 5-0.

The Falcons didn’t score until the end of the second half when an unassisted goal from senior midfielder Sierra Margut came five minutes before the end of the quarter. Then, just under two minutes before halftime, Margut assisted Danielle Schroll in the first of her three goals on the night.

Going into the half with a 2-0 lead gave the Falcons a bit of breathing room on their home turf, but the Mustangs came out strong at the start of the third quarter. Governor Mifflin had several breakaways, which allowed them to control offensive action at the beginning of the second half.

It took Cedar Crest about five minutes to get the ball back in their offensive end. The result was a goal for Ava Schreier, assisted by Cara Figueroa with 9:37 left on the clock. Figueroa assisted Schroll less than three minutes later, and Governor Mifflin called a time-out after the goal, attempting to restructure their attack.

The Mustangs kept the Falcons at bay for the rest of the quarter, leaving the score at 4-0. Then Schroll added a third goal for the night to secure herself a hat trick in the fourth quarter.

Both defenses were hard at work during the entire game. Goalie Addy Swayne took eleven shots and made five saves in cage for the Mustangs, and goalie Mikalyn Weaber faced eight shots with six saves for the Falcons.

Reese Arnold and Grace LaBarbera each recorded a defensive save for the Falcons.
