USA Field Hockey set to take part in the Pan American Hockey Federation’s inaugural Hockey5s Pan American Cups

The US women's team takes on Costa Rica in game one.

The USA Field Hockey story of the 2020s has only just begun.

On the heels of the US women’s senior team having a successful start in the 2022-23 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Pro-League, and the Junior Women’s National Team winning the gold in the Pan American Games, today the USA brand embarks on participating in the inaugural Hockey5s Pan American Cups.

As the game evolves, everyone else who plays a part in it does, too.

FIH describes Hockey5s as “a super-fast, highly skillful, short format of hockey, which is designed to be adaptable to multiple surfaces, environments, and space.”

There are four field players and one goalkeeper.

“Hockey5s incorporates all the skills and game principles of Hockey,” according to FIH. “With fewer players, less space and rebound boards on all four sides of the court, Hockey5s also presents a range of different tactical options to other formats.”

It was first introduced to the community in preparation for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

More information about the game can be found on the FIH website.
