East Stroudsburg field hockey among college teams invited to the White House’s first ‘College Athlete Day’

The Warriors claimed the 2022 NCAA Division II title for the second time in program history.

East Stroudsburg field hockey, which won the 2022 NCAA Division II title, received and accepted an invitation from the White House to be honored on the South Lawn.

It was the first ‘College Athlete Day,’ hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The President was unable to attend because he was having a root canal, according to media reports.

The Warriors posted photos of their trip to their Instagram page.

“From Seattle, Washington to Washington DC!! Today we got to be apart of the first College Athlete Day on the White House Lawn. We are so honored and grateful for this experience!!


Presidents have historically invited sports teams to the White House dating back to 1865, according to a Sports Illustrated report.

“Then President Andrew Johnson hosted the Brooklyn Atlantics and the Washington Nationals of the National Association of Base Ball Players. White House invitations have historically been extended to champions of the Little League World Series, NBA, WNBA, NFL, NHL, NASCAR and MLS, as well as some Olympians.”

Both men’s and women’s championships teams were invited. The NCAA holds 90 championships in 24 sports across its three divisions.
