RECAP: A look at last year’s PIAA champs, goalie saves, 100 high school career goals

FAN is looking around Pennsylvania to check in on high school field hockey action.

 

Here are some of the highlights from the week of August 28, the first full week of the 2023 season:

 

District 3

 

Mid-Penn: Camp Hill (2-0) beat Cedar Cliff (1-1) on Monday 3-1. The Lions’ goalie, Piper Reibsane, had 23 saves, and freshman Liv Hess scored 2 goals.

 

Two of last season’s state champions, Boiling Springs (1A) and Lower Dauphin (3A), have both started out with 2-0 records. The Bubblers beat Gettysburg 2-1 and Littlestown 5-0.

 

The Falcons are recording high goal scoring games, taking down Wyoming Valley West and Dallastown with scores of 8-2 and 10-0.

 

Mechanicsburg (2A) beat Central York 2-0 and lost to Penn Manor (3-1).

 

YAIAA: York Suburban (1-1) upset Dallastown (1-2) Monday, 2-1. The Trojan defense survived 12 corners and goalie Grace Bramble recorded 19 saves in the cage.

 

District 7 (WPIAL)

 

5A Big East: Penn-Trafford’s (2-1) Ava Hershberger scored her 100th career high school goal on Monday. The Warriors defeated Norwin (0-2) by a score of 5-1.
