Lower Dauphin defeats Twin Valley 5-0

Lily Rost has her right-side circle entry baseline run down.

She blasted her speed several times during Lower Dauphin field hockey’s game against Twin Valley. Her rehearsed play worked.

The final score last Friday was 5-0, which favored the Falcons. Despite the Raiders having an ace in the cage, not even Maddie Stevens could stave off a powerful offensive attack like Lower Dauphin’s.

Both District 3 teams are preparing for the postseason. Lower Dauphin is currently 14-2 and has two more games to play in the regular season. The Falcons play West Perry tonight and Selinsgrove on Oct. 19. The Falcons are currently ranked No. 4 in Class 3A.

Twin Valley ended its regular season in its game against the Falcons. The Raiders are 9-8 and are currently ranked No. 10 in Class 2A.

The Falcons are coached to not hold onto the ball, which was on display in their game against the Raiders. They were also able to defeat Palmyra and Hershey (two powerhouse Mid-Penn Conference Keystone Division teams) in their second matchup in a schedule that pairs the teams twice.  Lower Dauphin fell to Palmyra and Hershey the first time they met this season.

Practicing different circle entry options, having those variations, and focusing on moving the goalie has helped improve the offense’s ability to score, Rost said. She scored two against Twin Valley.

Ever since that midway point in the Fall season, Lower Dauphin has adjusted its passing game to two-touch passes and quick releases.

Twin Valley has a younger squad this year, but their offensive firepower is just lying beneath the surface ready to break out. The Raiders earned five consecutive corners with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

They were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
