Of the 25 athletes named this week to USA Field Hockey’s U-21 Women’s National Team, 11 are from the previous squad and four played on the 2021 Junior Pan American Championship team, according to USA Field Hockey.
The selection process was held Jan. 4 to 8 at Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center in California. The athletes will now attend the Junior Pan American Championship Selection Camp in February.
Head coach Tracey Paul told USA Field Hockey that she’s “encouraged by the quality of athletes” she observed. She said that “each session and training game” were “fiercely competitive.”
“The fluid pathway being developed across our National Teams is becoming very evident with six players from the selected U-21 squad currently working with the U.S. Women’s National Team,” Paul said.
Peyton Hale, of Forest Hill, Md., Alana McVeigh, of Lansdale, Pa., Hope Rose, of Dauphin, Pa., and Kiersten Thomassey, of New Albany, Ohio, were unable to trial in January due to either injury or illness, according to USA Field Hockey.
The U-21 team will take part in a training camp Feb. 17 to 19 at Bessant Field at Queens University of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Junior Pan American Championship travel team will then be announced for the Junior World Cup qualifier, which will be held April 10 to 18 in Saint Michaels, Barbados.
