Hat trick from Hinson helps Spring Grove shut out Northeastern 8-0 at Bobcats’ home opener

Spring Grove claimed a definitive 8-0 shutout win over Northeastern in their first game of the 2023 season.

Two of the Rockets’ three first-half goals were punched in by junior midfielder Kyleigh Hinson. Senior midfielder Kendall Smith recorded a goal in the second quarter to make the halftime score 3-0, Rockets.

Despite a slow start, Spring Grove regrouped and found footing after an early timeout in the first quarter. After halftime, the Rockets secured the win with four goals in the third.

Hinson tallied another goal at the beginning of the third to record a hat trick, followed by an Ivy Bechtel goal just over a minute later. Lilah Shaub put one on the scoreboard for the Rockets halfway through the third, and then with five seconds left before the break, Bechtel struck again. Smith added one more in the fourth.

The Bobcats established an offensive presence by the second half and controlled the ball in the midfield. Northeastern made several runs down the sidelines, but they weren’t able to break into their offensive 25.

Spring Grove played with one player down twice. A green and a yellow card were given for not giving five yards on a free hit.

However, the Rockets kept Northeastern from the cage and earned the shutout.
