FAN’s Class of 2024 Linda Kreiser Female Athlete Scholarship winner: Wyoming Area’s Nina Angeli

Out of the hundreds of votes cast, it was Wyoming Area senior Nina Angeli who secured a majority of them in FAN’s Class of 2024 Linda Kreiser Female Athlete Scholarship competition.

The contest began last Monday and ended Sunday at midnight. There were 17 seniors who shared their profiles on Female Athlete News and were part of it.

This is the second time that a field hockey athlete from Wyoming Area won the scholarship. Bianca Pizano was the inaugural recipient. Pizano is a NCAA student-athlete at Michigan State. Angeli is also Michigan State-bound next fall.

The Class of 2023 contest was held earlier this year. In both competitions, the athletes were tasked with gathering supporters to vote for them. Subscribers with either a $10 or $100 subscription were given one vote.

Angeli won 30 percent of the vote. It was a close contest between her, Bishop McDevitt’s Astrid Comp and Lower Dauphin’s Katelyn Strawser. All three will receive free FAN t-shirts.

Subscribers also stood the chance of winning. David Scalzo was selected at random by Angeli as the FAN merch giveaway winner. FAN had 96 percent voter participation.

Congratulations to all and thank you for supporting the scholarship. Profiles will remain on the Athletes’ page until March 2024.

Here is Angeli’s profile:

Why Michigan State? “The environment of a Big Ten school is like no other. I connected right away with the coaches and the team. When I was offered a scholarship and I went on my official visit, I knew it was the perfect fit for me.”

Describe a field hockey memory you won’t forget. And, why? “I will never forget winning the district championship. We were the first team in our school’s history to achieve this. It showed how much we were connected as a team. We worked hard and did it together.”
