FAN Class of 2024 ‘Linda Kreiser Female Athlete Scholarship’ nominee: meet Katelyn Strawser

Name: Katelyn Strawser

High School: Lower Dauphin

College: Penn State – University Park, undecided, looking to study something in the science field

Position: Forward

Extracurricular Activities: Travel and high school softball; Indoor club field hockey; Best Buddies; PA Revs All Starz; National Honor Society: Mini-thon; NEXUS Program; Lower Dauphin Youth Field Hockey; Lower Dauphin Youth Softball

Why did you choose your college: “The long-lasting traditions and undying pride at PSU is unmatched when compared to any other school. I grew up going to PSU football games, as I’m sure many people have, but it sparked my love for the school. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of having the honor to play for the field hockey team there. I honestly didn’t feel any hesitation in choosing where to spend my next four years of school. My heart knew that’s where I wanted to be.”

Describe a field hockey memory you won’t forget. And, why? “Winning the 2022 PIAA State Championship last year was definitely something I’ll never forget. Coming off of the previous season as State Runner-Ups, our team had even more determination to accomplish what we knew we could. We had more fire within us, and the 2022 season certainly had some ups and downs, but we were able to overcome all the odds. It was really special to be able to play in a State Championship game under the Lower Dauphin program. We were not only playing out there for ourselves, but we were playing for all those girls who came before us. Some of us the LD alumni are now coaching the team, and it’s really amazing to see how many women come back to coach a team they once played on. It truly demonstrates the significant effect that the strong LDFH program leaves on each person who comes through it. The relationships built now in high school are undoubtedly going to last many years, and I’m looking forward to the point in my life when I have a daughter playing on the team. I’m proud and honored to say that I was a part of this special program.”
