Pa. high school field hockey District 3 games: champions will be crowned

A few Pennsylvania high school field hockey teams have determined their District champions.

The District 3 classifications will be settled between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Stadium in Mechanicsburg.

In addition to the champions, a handful of teams are also still competing for their final standing in the 2024 District 3 tournament, which will also determine their seed in the 2024 PIAA state tournament.

All tickets are $8 and must be purchased online.

Here is the breakdown:

2024 District 3 Class 1A Title Game

No. 3 Boiling Springs vs. No. 1 West Perry, 11 a.m.

West Perry is finally getting its chance to dance in the big game. The 1A classification is the youngest one in Pennsylvania high school field hockey. And, in recent years, a number of teams have settled into it and have work toward making it a highly competitive one.

Since the first championship game in 2016, Oley Valley has won the District 3 championship four times, Greenwood three times, and Boiling Springs once.

West Perry is having a similar dream season like Boiling Springs had two seasons ago, when the Bubblers were crowned District 3 Class 1A winners. The only time West Perry has been to a District 3 championship game was in 1981, when they were a 2A classification.

West Perry roster: Alexis McKeehan, Jordan Byers, Madison Bell, Isla Boden, Shay Dyer, Bristol Sheaffer, Laurel Fite, Emma Stump, Linsay Shepard, Allison Dillman, Jensyn Dillman, Addison Brandt, Elana Morrison, Zoe Steppe, Carsyn Meek, Autumn Albright, Mariah Brown, Callie Haag, Bella Biezad, Briley Comp, Marty Morrison

2024 District 3 Class 2A Title Game

No. 7 Northern vs. No. 1 Warwick, 1 p.m.

Warwick is a loaded team that hasn’t seen the likes of a district championship game in just over a decade. They coalesce around the ball in ways that don’t interrupt their teammates in motion. Northern has slightly younger talent that has been maturing together in recent years. They were at the final stage last season and know what it’s like to battle. The Polar Bears fire off shots in the circle almost as rapidly as Warwick. It will be a battle between the Mid-Penn Conference and Lancaster-Lebanon League.

Northern roster: Lauryn Hose, Courtney Heltzel, Maura Simpson, Olivia Anderson, Keairah Dykes, Ava Hondorf, Madisyn Albert, Ava Barrick, Paityn Albert, Presley Loomis, Emma DeBolt, Sara Gunning, Hanna Thomas, Savannah Boyer, Tori Snyder, Addison Fringer, Maria Pucino, Mallory Patrick

Coaches: head, Ron Stief; assistants, Moriah Stauffer, Peyton Thompson, Emily Davis, Casie Sands, Jennie Streich, Kelly Bollinger, Megan Johnson, Katie Pyle

2024 District 3 Class 3A Title Game

No. 2 Lower Dauphin vs No. 1 Manheim Township, 3 p.m.

It’s not Groundhog’s Day. Yes, Manheim Township defeated Lower Dauphin last year to take the 2023 District 3 Class 3A title. Township has equitable power on each of its lines, and several of the players went all the way last year, and even made it to the 2023 PIAA Class 3A championship game. They ultimately fell 1-0 to Emmaus. The Falcons are also feisty and fast on both defense and offense. And, even though it’s been a rebuilding year, Lower Dauphin meshed mid-season, making small adjustments that rounds out stronger game play. It’s another Mid Penn Conference versus Lancaster-Lebanon League bragging rights contest.

Lower Dauphin roster: Kenzie Shaffer, Ciana Crispino, Dani Murphy, Ellie DeHart, Chase Strohm, Emerson Reeder, Ashlyn McGrady, Lizzie Day, Lily Rost, Nova Mayer, Lexy Hengst, Charlotte Bean, Emily Miller, Laney Johns, Jordan Frye, Grace Lindsey, Emma McConnell, Anamilley Diaz, Rylie Michael, Morgan Craig, Kylie Wilt, Brynn Woodall, Addie Whitmyer, Kai Killian, Laurel Unger

Coaches:  head Erin Catalfano; assistants, Abby Spanos, Mandi Mease, Katie Spanos, Linda Kreiser, Amy Steely, Kiley Strohm, Lindsey Cassel, Taylor Plouse, Kaitlyn O’Neil

Manheim Township roster: Monica Atta, Oly Sponaugle, Julia Weaver, Rhylee Givens, Sarah Ebersole, Mikaela DesAutels, Addison Landis, Adora Emuwa, Brooke Weaver, Dellah Baublitz, Eleanor Meckley, Ainsley Bounds, Marlowe Mullady, Isabella Clair, Elizabeth Maurer, Dehab Galami, Marrisa Barotti, Teagan Byler, Ava Culbertson, Azhie Rotz, Cami Schwartz, Olivia Spearing, Rose Montgomery, Grace Albright, Ella Renz, Grace Clawson, Alli Kane, Emma Drolet

Coaches: head, Jessica Shellenberger; assistants, Juli Bojanic-Collier, Kayla Waldrup, Julia Romano
