North Carolina has taken over at No. 1 in the latest Division I coaches poll, according to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
The poll was published Tuesday. All four of the top teams are both unbeaten overall on the season, and also in Big 10 or Atlantic Coast conferences, respectively.
Ohio State has allowed 5 goals and has scored 33 in eight games; Virginia has allowed 8 goals and has scored 24 in seven games; Northwestern has allowed 1 goal and has scored 21 in eight games; and, North Carolina has allowed 2 goals and has scored 25 in six games.
According to the NFHCA, “the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll is a composite ranking of the top 20 teams with a .500 or better record in the nation each week. Each Division I team with an NFHCA member coach is permitted one vote for the ranking each week.
“Polls are announced every Tuesday during the field hockey playing season.
The Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches and has no bearing on selection to the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.”
The following teams received the most votes cast by NFHCA members. The list is the team rank, name, record, and last position held in the prior poll.
