The Saint Joseph University field hockey team defeated the University of Massachusetts to win its fourth straight A-10 title.
The tournament was held over the weekend. The Hawks were seeded second behind their A-10 UMass rival.
An early fourth-quarter attack penalty corner tip scored by Sol Borensztein off a pass from Julia Duffhuis lifted the Hawks to the 2-1 victory. It’s the team’s seventh title in the last eight seasons.
According to SJU Athletics, “The Saint Joseph’s field hockey team, ranked fourth in the nation and winners of four consecutive Atlantic 10 championships, will host Lafayette in the First Round of the 2024 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship at Ellen Ryan Field on Friday.”

How did they get there?
No. 1 Massachusetts played No. 4 VCU, 4-0. The first goal was scored by Elena Cloconeanu. Hannah De Gast then scored back-to-back to make it 3-0. Elani Sherwood then hit the back of the cage sealing the deal and sending UMass to the championship.
No. 2 Saint Joseph’s and No. 3 Richmond played and Saint Joseph’s took the 6-1 victory. SJU scored all of their six goals first as it was Manu Ghigliotti with two goals, Celeste Smits, Julia Duffhuis, Alison Buffington and Yfke Walker. Valen Luna Paratore scored the lone goal for Richmond.
